VMware DevOps Engineer
Employee | Tech | Professional | Amsterdam | 2024-11-13 | REQ-10070778 | Salary indication 4,240 EUR - 6,882 EUR based on 36 hours
If you want to work at a place where we believe that you can live by the agile manifesto without jeopardizing the necessary continuity, compliance and QA measures, where we are committed to deliver stable and secure services to end users, and where we have a 'no nonsense' getting-things done mentality, please read on.
The job
After getting your first cup of coffee, either at the office or at home, you start your computer and logon to the network. One of the first things that you do is open the mailbox and incident tooling and take ownership in resolving potential issues that raised through the night and/or questions from other departments. As a financial institute, ING always must be available to its customers.
Before you know it, you take part of the daily standup of the team and present your tasks that you did the day before, whether you had impediments, and how you would like to proceed today.
After the standups you investigate the Sprint overview and pickup the next available story and deliver a high-quality solution for the story.
As experienced VMware engineer, you take part in several meetings throughout the day, to discuss, plan and prepare changes, improvements, troubleshoot, etc. While troubleshooting you make extensive use of the vRealize Operations Manager (VMware Aria Operations) and vRealize LogInsight (VMware Aria Operations for Logs) to find the information you need to solve the issue at hand.
The team
It is part of your mindset to automate tasks that are repeating. You dig up your Ansible playbook and/or Powershell environment and start writing automation code for the tasks. You push the code into an Azure Devops pipeline and run it periodically to keep the environment healthy.
At the end of the day, you make sure your phone is enabled, today your (planned) on-call duty started. During the week duty, you are responsible for the correct working of the entire environment outside office hours, and make sure ING can service its customers. During the night, you got a notification that one or our hardware nodes failed. You get into contact with the vendor and together resolve the hardware failure.
In the spare moments when not having the operational duty and/or stories at hand, you consider what the topic for your next demo would be or update the documentation.
If you recognize yourself in such a potential day, then we are looking for you!
You will work in the tribe GTDCN which stands for Global Tribe Datacenter and Networks and is part of the Tech/Infra department, one of the key tribes that facilitates and hosts the compute infrastructure for ING’s Private Cloud environment. Together with your colleague’s you are responsible for that infrastructure and making sure it’s secure, available and compliant all the time. The business depends on you.
