The Group Communications team at our Global HQ is looking for a Communications Strategist to pro-actively drive the corporate communications and activation calendar to engage and excite ING Group’s key internal and external stakeholders.

Communications Strategist is a senior role that works cross-border, cross-discipline and cross-business to drive awareness and excitement for ING Group’s strategy. The role holder must hold a degree-level qualification preferably in Communications, Marketing, Reputation Management or Journalism, and experience within corporate communications, media relations and/or reputation management in an (international) organisation with a large diversity of stakeholders. They should be versatile and proactive, with proven project and stakeholder management expertise, including at Executive Committee/Management Team level and across markets.

The team
As Communications Strategist you will join the Group Communications team. The team is part of the Global Communications, Brand & MarCom department. The Group Communications team aims to drive awareness, understanding and excitement on ING Group strategy/topics with key internal and external stakeholders – all employees and special interest groups such as investors/shareholders, sustainability activists, etc. This includes communications around financial reporting, supporting leadership communications, creating a sense of community amongst employees, and managing innovative communication tools. Reporting to the Head of Group Communications, the role requires working closely within the team, with other teams in the department, and with Group functions such as Finance,  Operations, Technology, Risk, Sustainability and HR.

Role and responsibilities

  • Communications planning: Create and implement internal and/or external communications and positioning plans, including a regular measurement and review cycle.

  • Activation and execution: End-to-end responsibility for the activation and execution of Group communications planning, including project management, budget management and elements such as production, publishing and partnering. Determine the best way to deliver components of the plan, including content creation (self, team, agency), evaluate and measure for impact.

  • Stakeholder management: Contribute to the structured approach towards internal stakeholders including management/board members, all business lines and support functions, colleagues in ING’s Comms, Brand & MarCom global network.

  • Team collaboration: Connect with members of our Group Communications team, foster an open culture of coaching and mentoring and continual improvement. Contribute to the goals of the broader Global communications teams (Retail and Wholesale Banking), and actively participate in HQ forums.

  • Take a leadership role within ING’s Comms, Brand & MarCom global network, drive collaboration to strengthen internal narrative and external reputation across the markets, and activate and engage around global events.

As a Communications Strategist you have the following traits and experience:

  • A degree-level qualification, preferably in Communication or Marketing

  • 10+ years of experience in a comparable role in an (international) organisation with a large diversity of stakeholders, including vast experience in financial communications and reporting.

  • Stakeholder management and advisory skills: you can build connections and maintain relationships with important stakeholders up to and including board level. You’re also experienced in managing multiple stakeholders across functions and locations.

  • Project management: You are experienced in executing a project plan within time and budget.

  • Audience research: You have experience with audience research and reporting.

  • Innovation mindset: you are interested in new ideas and developments to engage and communicate with audiences and can contribute to building a culture of innovation within the team and the organisation.

  • Communication tools: Good knowledge, understanding and experience in managing key internal and external tools such as SharePoint, Viva Engage, Stream, Spotler, and LinkedIn or a willingness to learn fast and master new skills.
