ING is looking for an IT Devops Chapter Lead in the International Payments Processing area. The stability of International Payment Processing system, the platform, including all of its components and pipelines, are managed by this chapter which includes a group of enthusiastic and highly skilled engineers.
The team
The engineering team that you will be responsible for and part of, is located in the Netherlands, Spain and India. Together with the other chapter leads you will look for the best ways to deliver fast and high-quality software while maintain the stability of existing system. You’re continuously looking for improvements, while ensuring a safe and compliant bank. Our IT Chapter Leads have a positive can-do mindset and they live the Orange Code Behaviour. Besides a passion for IT, Chapter Leads have strong people management and coaching skills.
As an IT Chapter Lead you are a senior engineer, and you are seen by colleagues as a go-to person. You have not only a strong drive to constantly keep your own expertise up to speed, but also want to make an active contribution to the development and advancement of the people in your chapter and your field.
You are energetic with expertise in engineering, people management and affinity with run and maintenance of critical applications. You are an Expert Ops Engineer, and this will be your role in the squad for 60% of your time. The remaining 40% you spend on building up expertise in your chapter and developing your chapter members.
The people in your chapter are equally ambitious as you, and you like to transfer your expertise to them and feel satisfaction from coaching (both professionally as personally) less senior chapter members. You are ambitious with what you and your Chapter want to achieve. You stimulate your Chapter members towards continuous improvement of their skills. You take an active role in the yearly planning of required improvements and translating these into a quarterly plan.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Engineer you contribute to the development and maintenance applications within PSS.
- Designing, developing, and maintaining applications
- Resolving incidents
- Continuous Delivery and Continuous Deployment in Azure DevOps
- You have direct contact with the users to convert complex business requirements into IT solutions
- You devise ways to make solutions scalable & future fit
- Sharing knowledge with and training less experienced colleagues
- In addition to substantive IT engineering tasks, you act as a coach of a Chapter (team) of engineering colleagues.
- You are responsible for all HR aspects associated with stimulating, motivating, and coaching the experts in your Chapter.
- As a Chapter Lead, you are responsible for the knowledge development of your employees within the ING Way-of-Work.

You are a skilled and very experienced Engineer. You are substantively strong, and you are focused on achieving the best and concrete results in your work. Better than anyone you understand the wishes and needs of the IT department. Also, you are a real team player. The complex and versatile operational working environment requires you to be able to switch quickly. You can quickly recognize where to act. You are also able to coach colleagues and give constructive feedback.
Characteristics of a Chapter lead

- You do your work with great awareness of the risks that ING and its customers can run
- Experience in managing Linux application platforms, where automating is your thing
- Master in CI/CD tooling, preferably with azure devops and ansible
- Master in monitoring, preferably with the ELK stack, Prometheus and Grafana
- Willing to do night and weekend standby shifts
- Experience with cross cultural and cross time zone collaboration
Engineering skills
- At least Bachelor/Master level of education
- Knowledge of, and experience with Agile/Scrum
- DevOps skills
- Knowledge of, and experience with continues delivery tools like GIT, Azure DevOps, and Azure pipeline
- Familiar with ELK stack and other monitoring and alerting solutions like Grafana and Prometheus
- Knowledge of, and experience with Risk management in a IT Bank environment
- Experience in drawing up complex business requirements from stakeholders and converting them into IT solutions
- You have a positive mindset
- You have an excellent command of both the Dutch and English language, both verbally and in writing
