About the position:

ING’s Acquisition Finance group in the Americas is seeking a Vice President. This position is an opportunity to assist in new business origination efforts and execute sponsor-backed leveraged finance transactions, including leveraged buyouts, refinancings, and dividend recapitalizations. You will collaborate with senior bankers to source and originate new business opportunities as well as oversee a variety of deals, including direct club deals and broadly syndicated loans. You will perform a range of activities which include idea generation, pitching, structuring, credit analysis, authoring credit memos, legal documentation review, and overseeing closing processes for new transactions. This position requires motivation to seek out the next deal idea and take initiative to bring it to fruition.  The role will also require leadership in deal execution, managing junior bankers and running a deal process from origination to full credit approval & closing.  

About the department:

Acquisition Finance is a global platform within ING’s Capital Markets & Advisory (CMA) platform that provides advice, underwritten financing, and lending to leveraged issuers backed by a range of top-tier private equity sponsors. The team works to support private equity sponsors by providing across ING’s global footprint and is considered experts within the leveraged lending field and a pillar of ING’s capital velocity strategy.

Responsibilities:

You will assume the role of a mid-senior banker on the team and perform aspects of originating and executing leveraged finance transactions while mentoring, leading, and training the junior bankers.

  • Contribute to the team’s idea generation pipeline and deal sourcing efforts, including screening the portfolio for potential transactions, identifying prospects for opportunistic refinancings and repricings, and pursuing possible new deals and LBOs from market intelligence
  • Pursue idea validity and assemble pitch materials to use in client presentations alongside senior bankers and relationship managers
  • Manage and oversee Associate(s) and Analyst(s) on transaction deal teams and internal tasks
  • Author screening memos and credit approval packages reflecting due diligence, financial analysis, and credit documentation review
  • Perform and review credit analysis completed by junior bankers for correctness, including: LBO models, comparable company / precedent transaction analyses, rating assessments and return analysis
  • Collaborate with a variety of other teams, ranging from CMA partners (e.g. Capital Markets, M&A), industry groups, and execution specific departments (e.g., Risk, Legal) as well as Acquisition Finance colleagues across the globe

Qualifications and competencies:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, Mathematics or related quantitative field.  An advanced degree (i.e. MBA) and/or CFA is a plus
  • 5-8 years of relevant experience
  • Previous background in leveraged finance and a solid understanding of various debt products
  • Background in an origination role with a corporate bank, investment bank, direct lender or advisory firm is a plus
  • Advanced understanding of transaction structuring and legal documentation
  • Strong credit skills and understanding of how to analyze risk
  • Strong presentation skills in front of clients and internal stakeholders
  • Ability to collaborate with other groups inside and outside CMA
  • Strong understanding of GAAP accounting principles and financial statements
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • You are a driven individual with ability to work under limited direct supervision

  • You are highly detail oriented and able to handle several projects at a time in a fast-paced environment

Salary Range $230,000-$270,000
