Global Infrastructure delivers and manages a cohesive and resilient infrastructure ecosystem globally that encompasses Hybrid Cloud (Private/Public), Data Centers, networking, middleware, PaaS and IaaS capabilities, enabling seamless integration and optimized performance to support the organization’s strategic goals and operational needs.

In the role of Head of Private Cloud for ING you will be responsible for the strategic development and delivery of ING’s Private Cloud. This is the foundation of ING’s Scalable Technology Platform that enables ING to operate as one and boost the speed, quality and security of delivering business applications across all markets.

Key Responsibilities

You will be playing a crucial part in the success of the Scalable Technology Platform strategic objectives defined by CTO. Your focus will be on owning the private cloud strategy of the bank and it’s delivery.

In this role, you will:

  • Own and lead the engineering, development and ongoing innovation of the ING Private Cloud service portfolio.
  • In partnership with architecture, engineering, security and reliability teams across ING you will drive the development of technical standards for cloud development and consumption.
  • Partner with ING business units globally to effectively on-board them onto the global cloud and platform services portfolio.
  • In joint alignment with the Global Tech Infrastructure tribes plan and execute the rationalisation of global data center consolidation as result of a successful migration to cloud.
  • Ensure that the strategic partner ecosystem is continuously developed and smartly leveraged to deliver value for ING and our customers.
  • Act as thought leader and ambassador within ING’s wider ecosystem to attract top talent to ING as engineering quality is of paramount importance to execute on our strategy.
  • Lead a high performing Cloud team and nurture a learning and customer obsessed mindset.
  • Engage with senior leadership in ING as well as external parties to evolve our cloud strategy and drive the maximisation of it’s business value.

Requirements

This function requires a comprehensive skill set to effectively lead the implementation of cloud services and drive the cloud transformation towards applications and business processes:

  • Strategic Vision:
    • Ability to develop a vision and look beyond the short-term-gains with a focus on the long-term objectives and overall direction and strategy of the organization.
    • Forward-thinking mindset to stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends. Finding new ways to solve problems and improve processes that align with future goals and objectives.
    • Ability to create a purpose, roadmap, set objectives and key results to effectively drive the delivery of purposeful products and services.
    • Understand the Business Goals, and Industry dynamics. Keep-up with industry trends (technology, user behaviors, concepts).

  • Technical Leadership and Knowledge:
    • Proven track record as expert on Cloud Infrastructures, and Cloud Native Architectures.
    • Fluent in modern technology stacks including Software Defined Networking, Middleware, Databases, Caching, Containerization, Virtualization, Cloud Storage, etc.
    • In depth understanding of Cloud operating models such as Cloud Governance, FinOps, SRE, Cloud Architectural and Security Frameworks.
    • Familiarity with regulations and risk models for Cloud in Financial Services.

  • Cross Functional and Cultural Leadership:
    • Excellent communication skills, to lead cross functional, multi-disciplinary distributed teams.
    • Strong leadership skills to guide and inspire the engineering community that include both engineers, and peer IT and Area Leads globally.
    • Leading organizational change efforts to adopt new practices, tools, and cultural shifts, while managing resistance and buy-in across teams and individuals.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with other departments, teams, in an international matrix organization. Work in triangle of Product - Engineering – Architecture.
    • Skills in managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Analytical and Critical Thinking:
    • Proficiency in identifying issues, analyzing complex systems, and devising effective solutions.
    • Takes a scientific approach in solving problems.

  • Communication skills:
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to articulate vision, strategies, and technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
    • Excellent command of the English language in writing and verbal.
    • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with teams across different cultures and regions.
    • Strong advocate e.g. presenting on stage, conferences, convey a story and message to larger audience, is seen as an authority in his/her field of expertise.
