Data Analytics Platform’s aim is to leverage analytics for ING, providing a multi-tenant hybrid platform, combining cutting-edge technologies on both private cloud/on-prem and GCP. We seek an enthusiastic Chapter Lead with a passion for data, technologies, and people!

Your passion is to work with the latest and greatest technologies that make working with large amounts of data easy, you’re pro-active in keeping yourself up to date and are always searching for new ways to discover new technologies. You also enjoy laying the architectural foundations for the things you’re working on. You combine both thinking of the future and a hands on, right now attitude. You will work in a team with highly skilled people and enjoy a creative atmosphere where trying things out is encouraged.

Your Day-to-Day

We are looking for a new colleague whose profile comprises both solid people management experience and technical expertise. Your should always view your team as the no. 1 priority, while still being able to actively participate and deliver on the technical side. You will be responsible for developing individual expertise within your chapter, fostering best practices, hiring and staffing and collaborating closely with cross-functional squads to ensure high-quality delivery. You will balance technical leadership with hands-on mentoring, shaping the direction of your chapter while supporting members in their career growth.

Key Responsibilities (50% People Management) 

  • Chapter Leadership: Build, coach, and inspire a team of engineers. Promote a culture of continuous learning, experimentation, and innovation within the chapter of engineers with different technological backgrounds 

  • Technical Excellence: Set and maintain standards for best practices, tools, and methodologies. Drive initiatives to improve technical quality, scalability, and maintainability 

  • Talent Development: Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance reviews, and growth plans with chapter members. Identify individual strengths and support members in their career paths 

  • Community Building: Foster a strong sense of community within the chapter by organizing knowledge-sharing sessions, workshops, and other opportunities for professional development 

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with stakeholders across engineering, product, and business functions to ensure alignment on product goals, priorities, and strategies with those of your Chapter members 

  • Collaboration: Work together closely with data analysts, data scientists and business colleagues across the organization

  • Communication: You can explain complicated subjects clearly to different audience 

  • Environment shaping: You are friendly, empathetic and approachable and can challenge engineers in and out of your chapter 

  • Curiosity: You are motivated to keep up to date with the latest developments and to introduce them to the team and projects where applicable  

Besides great people skills, the Team Lead that we are looking for should match the following technical profile (50% individual technical contribution alongside the team members):

Required skills:

  • Familiar with SRE concepts and System and application monitoring

  • Knowledge of infrastructure architecture and practices 

  • Good understanding of databases including RDBMS, non-SQL Experience with monitoring and observability (ELK stack) 

  • Deployment and provisioning automation tools e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, Openshift, CI/CD 

  • Infra as code (Terraform, Ansible) 

  • Bash scripting and Linux systems administration 

  • Analyze, solve and correct issues.

 

Nice to have: 

  • Experience with distributed systems and clusters for both batch as well as streaming data (S3/Spark/Kafka/Flink) 

  • System design and architecture 

  • Experience with Apache Airflow

  • Programming in Python 

  • Experience working in cloud environment (e.g. GCP) and building distributed, large scale and secure applications
