The opportunity

For the central team, in a cluster of 5 teams, we are looking for an experienced Java Developer. The teams are located in the Netherlands, Spain, India and Philipines and collaborate to create digital features for the Mortgage Advice Processes. As central team the other teams rely on a solid and high quality architecture to build their features on. As the Senior Software Developer it is your responsibility to create that high quality architecture.

The team

The multi disciplinair team of Customer Journey Experts (Business people), Developers and Operations is fully responsible for designing, developing and running their solutions. The Spring-boot applications offer functionalities to customers and advisors to interact in a digital way to create the best fitting Mortgage for the customer. Your role as a Senior Software Engineer is to design solutions together with business and developers, interact with other teams and departments and raise the improvements needed to keep the applications on a high quality level. In the team there are developers in both NL and Philipines. You will be coaching the developers in the team together with the senior engineer in the Philipines.

The central role of this team will enable you to help other teams to be successful in delivering their features. A vision on architecture is needed to make sure that any choices you make on the software architecture will maintain quality levels and keep the high pace of delivery for the entire cluster of teams.

  • You have a strong interest and vision in recent trends in software development and technology in general. Ability to transfer this knowledge back to ING

Our stack

Our back-end APIs are created with an internal Spring-Boot based framework and run on container infrastructure. To comply with our regulators demands, our releases processes can feel bureaucratic from time to time. This means that you need to be a quick learner to understand them, and you need to have the ambition to improve and automate as much as possible.

Your skills

  • Experience with Java, Maven and Spring-boot

  • Experience with Relational Databases (Oracle)

  • Experience with Event Streaming (Kafka)

  • Experience with different architecture styles (Micro Services, Event Architecture, ports and adapters)

  • Experience with CI/CD tooling (at least Git and Azure DevOps)

  • Experience with the Agile/Scrum/Kanban way of working

  • Proficient in English

Nice to Have

  • Basic (Linux) operations and automation skills

  • Experience with Front end development

  • Advanced skills that help us improve our CI/CD pipeline (e.g. using Docker)

  • Experience with DevOps (monitoring production, Grafana, Kibana)

  • Experience in a corporate environment
