Global Lead – Structured Commodity Finance

The Global Lead - Structured Commodity Finance (“SCF”) is responsible for the strategic direction and management of ING’s SCF product globally.

SCF is a product offering within ING’s Trade & Commodity Finance franchise (“TCF”) which aims to meet the structured financing needs (like prepayments/PXFs, tolling facilities, producer borrowing base facilities) of TCF clients.

In this role, you are primarily responsible for the devising of the strategy for this growth business, driving commercial performance and managing financial and non-financial risks.

The Team

The team comprises of 2 senior originators (Metals and Energy) and one analyst in EMEA. In Asia the business is managed by TCF originators under the guidance of the Global Lead – SCF. Americas business is covered from Geneva.

You will be based in Geneva and report functionally to the Global Head of TCF, currently Maarten Koning and hierarchically to the Head of TCF Switzerland, currently Francois Broussard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop the SCF strategy, ensuring it is aligned with the overall ING WB strategy and the global TCF strategy, to deliver objectives set by the MBB, the TCF Management Team (“TCF MT”) and strengthen commercial performance within established risk appetite.
  • Set and develop long term plans for the product and identify growth opportunities and drive differentiation of customer value proposition versus competitors.
  • Work closely with TCF (and other Sectors’) Deal Principals and Team Leads to:
    • Facilitate the origination, structuring and execution of new SCF deals
    • Manage and monitor the existing portfolio of deals
  • Responsible for the global SCF P&L
  • Coordinate and foster collaboration with other sector teams/leads (mainly Metals Mining & Fertilizers /Energy) to fully harness ING’s sector expertise 
  • Coordinate with Risk and TCF MT to ensure there is alignment on key priorities, risk appetite and the strategic direction of the business.
  • Develop/update SCF PARP
  • Provide senior representation and thought leadership externally including attendance at industry conferences.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance in line with ING procedures.
  • Attract, engage, and develop talents and build a high performing team.
  • Establish and maintain relations with other banks active in the SCF space.

Required Experience

We are looking for a candidate who has a strong understanding commodities market & extensive knowledge of WB products and risk management. You are a people manager that can act as leader in a complex functional and regional matrix organisation.

Next to that you recognize yourself in the following profile:

  • 10-15 years of work experience in the commodities industry.
  • Experience in managing complex producer / processing related financing structures
  • Proven track record of managing and growing businesses, preferably new businesses.
  • Strong commercial acumen and ability to execute.
  • Highly experienced in complex stakeholder management.
  • Good knowledge/experience or regulatory requirements and risk management (financial & non-financial).
  • A growth mindset and ability to operate in ambiguity.
  • End to end thinking (considering the complete value chain) and then the doing (laying out execution), including stakeholder management.
  • Qualification/Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, Mathematics or closely related quantitative field; MBA preferred.
