The Mission

As a DevOps Engineer in ING Business you have to be something of a Jack of all trades. You need to know a little about a great number of topics like operating systems, disk management, databases, networking, performance, web sites, load balancing, security, backups, disaster recovery, project management, and configuration management.

You might think that in a DevOps role you’ll spend all of your time dealing with computers and software, but you will also be dealing with a LOT of people. A typical day will have you spending as much time with other people as with the applications and tools you’re handling. Some of the types of people are: Users, Developers, Power Users, Product Owners, Other Application Administrators, DBAs, The Network team, The Security team, Help Desk.

This role is not just about keeping the applications running. We are constantly looking for ways to improve the processes. As part of the DevOps team you are expected to contribute to this effort. A significant impact can be seen in documentation, best practices and process maturity.

Your Day to Day

· Work closely with application development teams and vendors to tune and troubleshoot applications

· Actively participating in transforming the design, architecture and deployment mechanism for the existing applications in order to have them thrive in a private cloud environment

· Monitor the ING Business suite, document and analyse problems

· Maintain system documentation

· Configure environments for the application suite

· Deploy application functionality in Test, Acceptance and Production

· OS patching

· Participate in DR/BCP plans

· Escalation of incidents / problems to the next (3rd) line of support, if needed (developers, Infrastructure, Network, DB Admins).

· Collaborate with Network, OS and other DevOps teams to ensure proper integration of the environment(s)

· Lead and participate in efforts to develop and implement processes for application and system monitoring

· Investigate, analyse, document and solve production incidents

· Test application functionality in production after patches or releases

· Reviews and addresses assigned technical support tickets and calls, enters all updates related to such calls into ServiceNow ticketing system, and keeps the team aware of any sensitive or escalating issues

· Develop and maintain the reporting and dashboard infrastructure for the organization

· Enable best practices

· Maintain SLA, System Availability, Capacity management and Performance KPIs

· Offer help and support to newer colleagues.

Within the tribe

1. Squad

  • Keep squad members up to date regarding the situation on production: document problems & highlight the impact on clients.
  • Problem & bug investigation (with dev colleagues if needed)
  • Create / maintain dashboards for different purposes (monitoring, error alerting, statistics)
  • Have recurrent syncs with developers in order to find out the DevOps needs of the squad 
  • Create/maintain pipelines specific for squad needs.

2. Chapter

  • Actively participate in ceremonies
  • Propose and actively participate in knowledge sharing sessions
  • Keep an eye on the chapter's Azure board
  • Be a backup for at least one colleague
  • ING Business & WSO2 patching
  • IPC / ICHP migration.

What you bring to the team

· A good understanding of DevOps practices

· Excellent technical documentation affinity

· Good knowledge of UNIX based systems and features

· Basic knowledge of Oracle/SQL

· Experience with source control (Git), PowerShell and PowerShell DSC for configuring the application servers

· Good knowledge and demonstrated troubleshooting abilities on connectivity issues due to firewall, load balancer, proxy and others.

· Experience with automation/configuration management systems (such as Azure DevOps, Puppet, YAML, etc)

· Good knowledge of monitoring tools like Grafana, Zabbix, Kibana or Prometheus

· Experience with CI-CD pipelines and tools (Azure DevOps, Azure Boards, Azure Backlog)

· Ability to effectively interface with technical and nontechnical staff at all organizational levels

· Excellent problem solving/analytical skills and knowledge of analytical tools

· Polite persistence is a must and it pays off.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of ITIL and Agile concepts
  • Knowledge of technologies dealing with containers: Docker, Kubernetes, Openshift
  • Experience with monitoring tools
  • Experience with the following technologies is an advantage: Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana, Microsoft SQL Server.
