Mission
As a DevOps Chapter Lead in Lending & Insurances Tribe you will be responsible with building, managing and growing a DevOps engineering team. You will act both as a people manager and as a technical coach. Moreover, since a Chapter Lead is expected to have strong technical skills, part of your responsibilities will be to execute technical requirements together with the team.
Your role is very important within the tribe as you will foster the technical culture and set the standards for our assets infrastructure. Together with the team, you will make sure that the security requirements are met, the incidents are very efficiently managed and our processes are automated as much as possible.
We are constantly looking for ways to improve our processes. As part of the technical team you are expected to contribute to this effort. A significant impact should be seen in documentation, best practices and process maturity.
To put it briefly, you will act as a central pillar in maintaining a very resilient infrastructure, having an automation mindset and you are expected to contribute massively in what is behind ING Bank Romania's Lending & Insurances processes.

Your Day-to-Day
You will hierarchically oversee a Chapter consisting of 6 engineers, including ‘people management’. This covers the recruiting of new talents, administration, personal development, and evaluation of your Chapter members.
From a leadership perspective, a DevOps Chapter Lead:
- Is accountable for identifying and fulfilling IT knowledge gaps within our area, ensuring that Squads are properly and qualitatively staffed;
- Coaches individual Chapter members in both expertise related skills and behavioural aspects;
- Propagates a culture that fits with the Agile way of working and leads by example;
- Determines, together with the Chapter members, the way of working in his/her IT Chapter and sets standards for the area of expertise;
- Recruits and expands the team with new talents;
- Provides continuous coaching and mentoring by clarifying job responsibilities, setting performance expectations, identifying skill gaps, creating development plans and evaluating performance;
- Contributes to the strategy and lifecycle management of the Lending domain;
- Helps the team improve performance by learning from mistakes and finds ways to implement lessons learned by other teams in their Chapter;
- Helps the team set-up their individual KPI’s and determines the way of working for the Chapter;
- Reviews and approves KPI for the Chapter members;
- Initiates changes to increase the team’s productivity;
- Assesses the efficiency of end-to-end operational processes by identifying and mitigating risks;
- Collaborates closely with a team made of Chapter Leads, Product Owners, Agile Coaches, Business Analysts, Architects, DevOps engineers and Infrastructure Specialists;
From technical perspective, a DevOps Chapter Lead:
- Acts as a senior DevOps engineer by delivering high quality results in your squad and providing technical guidance in your Chapter;
Designs, implements, and maintains automation scripts and tools for deployment, configuration and infrastructure management to streamline operations;
Develops and manages monitoring solutions to detect and respond to system anomalies and performance issues;
Leads incident response efforts to minimise downtime and optimise system performance;
Collaborates with cross-functional teams to conduct capacity planning exercises, ensuring that the infrastructure can scale to meet growing demands;
Champions the use of Infrastructure as Code principles to manage and version control infrastructure configurations, ensuring consistency and repeatability;
Works on continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system reliability, reduce downtime, and optimise performance through best practices;
Collaborates closely with software development and DevOps teams to understand application architecture, provide guidance on reliability aspects, and contribute to designing scalable and resilient systems;
What you bring to the team
- Deep understanding of key DevOps responsibilities and concepts;
- Experience in continuous integration and continuous deployment pipeline processes for fast integration of testing, deployment, and delivery environments;
- Ability to effectively interface with technical and non-technical staff at all organisational levels;
- Excellent problem solving/analytical skills and knowledge of analytical tools;
- Hands-on experience in process automation, technology efficiency and effectiveness;
- Excellent technical documentation skills;
- Experience with Agile software development methodology and practices;
- Ability to adapt to continuous and demanding security changes;
- Respond to critical incidents calmly, but effectively;
- Deadline meeting capability;
- The ability to give constructive feedback and openness to receive it as well;
- Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment;
Technical skills:
- Advanced experience with Unix Server commands;
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft SQL, Oracle DB;
- Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell) and automation tools;
- Advanced experience working with Azure Pipelines;
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g. Git) and CI/CD pipelines;
- Strong knowledge of cloud platform (e.g., Azure) and container orchestration;
- Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, ELK, Zabbix);
- Solid understanding of networking principles;
- Experience in managing environments from development to production;
- Knowledge of ITIL and Agile concepts;
- Some experience with Java and/or .Net, web components and others is a plus;
