The Mission

The role of the Business Intelligence Chapter Lead is to manage and coach the BI Engineers team working for different squads, delivering strategic and regulatory initiatives within the HUBS Global area, but also act as a contributor to the success of the project in his/her squads.

 

A Chapter is a collection of squad members with the same specific expertise or competence. In this position, you will work with the Product Owners and Product Leads within HUBS Global, but also other POs and Chapter Leads. Together with them and your team, you will have an eye on the long-term perspective and share a collective responsibility to improve ING’s performance by organizing the way of working but also personal development, expertise and craftsmanship of the team members in your chapter. You are also expected to keep an eye on the possibilities to connect with different areas of expertise within Tech RO, in order to bring value for our stakeholders.

 

It is expected that this will take around 40% of your time. For the remaining 60% of your time, you will work as a proficient engineer and squad member towards achieving your squad's purpose.

 

Your day to day

Even if you’ll start your day from the comfort of your home or drink your morning coffee in our office’s garden, your day will be quite similar when comes to tasks. Here are your daily responsibilities:

  • Articulate the product vision while capturing input from the stakeholders
  • Provide continuous coaching and mentoring by clarifying job responsibilities, setting performance expectations through the establishment of goals and job competencies, identifying skill gaps, creating development plans and evaluating performance.
  • People Management of highly talented Business Intelligence Engineers, located in Romania.
  • Contribute to strategy and lifecycle management of reporting implementation
  • Identify gaps with your team and drive improvements initiatives
  • Showing others in your team you trust their judgment, sometimes even showing you know they have more expertise than you do, and that you’re comfortable with that.
  • Help the team to improve performance by learning from mistakes and find ways to bring lessons learned by other teams to your chapter.
  • Empower people to use feedback as a powerful mechanism that drives progress in the organization.
  • Assess the efficiency of end-to-end operational processes by identifying and mitigating risks
  • Collaborate closely with an international team made of IT Area Leads, Chapter Leads, Product Owners, Agile Coaches, Business Analysts, Architects, ETL DevOps engineers and Infrastructure Specialists.
  • Safeguard usage of Agile - Scrum principles in day-to-day work of the team
  • Up to date with the latest industry standards and trends in the area of Data Management and Business Intelligence
  • Report on the progress and communicate the dependencies and impediments to stakeholders.

 

 

What you’ll bring to the team

  • Experience:
    • People Manager of a development team for at least 3 years
    • Strong technical background on data and reporting
    • With Agile – Scrum methodology
    • You have a minimum of 5+ years of working experience in IT Business Intelligence area.
    • In Banking industry is considered a plus
  • Tech stack/ knowledge:
    • Good knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2016 or higher (SSIS and SSAS)
    • OLAP Modelling exposure
    • Experience with data warehouse, data modelling and reports using Microsoft SQL Server
    • Experience in reports presentation using Reporting Services (SSRS), Power BI
    • Experience in dealing with large quantities of data (and performance tuning)
    • Experience with pair programming and automated release management
    • Ability to translate requirements.
    • Passionate about data insights
    • Experience with Azure DevOps is considered a plus
    • Tech stack/ knowledge:
    •  Mandatory: SQL Server 2016 or higher, SSIS 2016 or higher, SSAS 2016 or higher, SSRS, Power BI
    • Nice to have: Cloud knowledge ( Azure )

  • Soft skills:
    • You have strong communication, presentation, networking and influencing skills.
    • You are a self-starter with a good ability to learn new content quickly and transfer it.
    • Consulting mindset including an ability to think about Data Management in a way that is abstracted from how business functions currently operate.
    • You share and adhere to the ING values of honesty, prudence and responsibility.
    • You actively seek help and feedback but are also not afraid to give feedback.
    • You are comfortable to work in an ever-changing environment and can inspire others to apply problem solving solutions when dealing with challenges.

  • Foreign languages: English (advanced)
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in an IT related field
