Volunteering Days: Training as a digital buddy at Libraries Without Borders
Every year, around a thousand colleagues participate in the ING Volunteering Days for a day. In cooperation with Time4Society, we opt for local organisations and social projects. Whatever the volunteers choose do on that day is entirely up to them.
For example, you can roll up your sleeves and help out at a care farm or nature reserve. Or you can use your skills and knowledge to help organisations that advocate for those who are struggling in a digital society, such as Libraries Without Borders.
I see this as an opportunity to do my bit and help people, outside of work too.
Digitisation impacts the whole of society. But not everyone finds it as easy to work with a computer, so they risk getting left behind. Libraries Without Borders is keen to help, by introducing them to the digital world and giving them the confidence to use computers.
They do this with the support of digital buddies and thanks to the ING Volunteering Days they now count an additional fifteen! During their training, our colleagues learned how to assist people who, for whatever reason, struggle to cope digitally. It was an instructive day full of fresh insights and practical tips.
