Volunteering Days: Helping to restore a piece of nature in De Zegge Nature Reserve
Every year, around a thousand colleagues participate in the ING Volunteering Days for a day. In cooperation with Time4Society, we opt for local organisations and social projects. Whatever the volunteers choose do on that day is entirely up to them.
For example, you can use your talents as a digital buddy to help people who struggle with everything digital. Or you can put on your boots and help restore a piece of nature, say in De Zegge Nature Reserve in Geel.
Helping to restore a piece of nature where you can really feel the impact of climate change, that’s satisfying.
De Zegge is an area where water has been finding its way into the soil for several hundred years and where rare animals and plants are given another chance. It’s an initiative that the Royal Zoological Society of Antwerp is pleased to support, and one that could really use the help of volunteers. That’s what about twenty people from ING also thought.
During the ING Volunteering Days, they headed off for a day to remove the mown grass that laid on the ground. This gives other plants and animals some room to breathe too. It was hard work, especially with so much wet grass, but very satisfying and the ideal team-building exercise.
