Volunteering Days: A day at Huppeldepup care farm

Every year, around a thousand colleagues participate in the ING Volunteering Days for a day. In cooperation with Time4Society, we opt for local organisations and social projects. Whatever the volunteers choose do on that day is entirely up to them.

For example, you could put your skills to good use for a charity and help organisations with their website or marketing plan. Or you could literally roll your sleeves up and help out on a care farm like the Huppeldepup care farm in Humbeek.

The satisfaction you have when you go home at night and think: everyone was happy

Animals have a very calming effect on people with a physical or mental disability. Which is why, in 2015, Ellen and her husband started up the Huppeldepup care farm, where you can cuddle and look after animals and even undergo hippotherapy. At the same time, Huppeldepup also provides a home to animals who didn't have one anymore. From chickens and goats to emus and alpacas.

We thought this was a great initiative. So, during the ING Volunteering Days, ten of our staff took a day out to help get the farm ready for winter. A job that would otherwise take Huppeldepup’s team around eight weeks, was completed in a day. It was a day full of satisfaction, pleasure, and enjoyment of the healthy fresh air.
