A day in the life of a Legal Expert in the General Legal Affairs team

 

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic member of one of our legal teams: General Legal Affairs. In your role as legal expert, you will

 

      identify and manage legal risk within your area of expertise, by providing hands-on, meaningful and timely legal advice to all business lines of ING Belgium, ensure they comply with and embed applicable law, regulation and policy;

      act as key legal business partner to your main internal clients (a.o. business delivery, accounts, digital sales and digital adoption, pricing, KYC, customer experience and value proposition). Providing business driven and risk based legal advice, assisting with regulatory interactions, handling legal claims (with assistance of external counsel), drafting contracts, terms and conditions, validating customer journeys and marketing material, etc.  

      work closely with other legal colleagues in Belgium and abroad, with compliance, risk management and regulatory teams, and with the supported businesses

      follow up closely on regulatory developments within your area of expertise, participate actively to sector discussions in this respect, and provide both your other legal colleagues and ING’s business lines proactively with in depth, relevant and to the point information on upcoming regulatory developments

      You have a Belgian master degree in law and at least 3 years relevant experience gained in private practice, a bank or relevant financial services organisation with proven track record in excellent legal support and ability to proactively identify and manage legal risk, while being a true business partner

      You have acquired a deep understanding, sound legal reflexes and a keen interest in relevant areas of economic and financial law, such as accounts (payment accounts, saving accounts, basic bank service, term accounts, invest accounts, sleeping accounts, etc), payment services, publicity and marketing regulation in the financial sector, digitalisation journeys, pricing requirements, regulatory reporting requirements and deposit guarantee, B2C and B2B economic law requirements (incl. consumer protection & market practices), anti-money laundering, etc.

      You are a trusted business partner and legal gatekeeper, capable of thinking proactively along in terms of flexible legal solutions, feasible from a commercial and organisational perspective

      You have strong analytical skills and the ability to deliver high quality, to the point work in easily understandable language

      You are a true team player, but also capable to work autonomously

      You are flexible, stress resistant and available to support demanding business partners with sound and business driven legal solutions in a fast-changing environment      

      You are fluent in English, Dutch and French (written and spoken)

The team

 

With your fellow legal experts in the General Legal Affairs team, you will provide legal advice and assistance to ING Belgium’s staff departments and business on general legal requirements applicable to ING Belgium and its subsidiaries. The team masters strategically important transversal legal expertise in several areas (such as such as company law, corporate and regulatory matters, payments & accounts, innovation & digitization, anti-money laundering, judicial law, criminal law, competition law, GDPR) coordinates and manages regulatory and strategic projects requiring specialised legal expertise and is responsible for regulatory watch.
