Your role & work environment

As a Functional Analyst at ING you will play a crucial role in enabling a data-driven culture in Products and Services tribes.

With this position you will join the team responsible of shaping one of the largest BE Datamart : the Customer Analytics Datamart (DM_CAN). A large community of Data Analysts is relying on DM CAN to create customer insights & drive with facts our commercial actions. The team works in an Agile environment and is composed of 10 multidisciplinary professionals, whose main mission is to supply data and insights to support data driven decisions which will delight ING customers.

Your key responsibilities

Translating the business needs into an analytical request:

  • Hereby you will be discussing and challenging the needs and requirements with your stakeholders.
  • While thinking along you already think a step further in terms of a feasibility analysis, setting realistic timelines, and cross-checking the data needs and availabilities.
  • Based on this, you define a suitable approach and solution that fits the needs. These you communicate in a clear and transparent way to your stakeholders.

Go over to the execution phase, this by applying some advanced analytical skills, capabilities and techniques, some examples are:

  • Translating business requirements into IT specs by drafting functional analysis and data flow designs.

  • Define smart Data Quality Rules in a framework.

  • Make sure data governance rules are applied and respected.

  • Executing an in-depth investigation on our customer data base to come up with answers to some specific questions or needs from the business and come up with potential solutions

  • Create reports & dashboards, using tools like PowerBI & Cognos

After the analytical quest you communicate your insights and recommendations in an appropriate way to the stakeholders:

  • This by applying the right visualization techniques.
  • Adapting your message to the needs and context of your stakeholders.
  • Communicating clear and on a convincing way your recommendations and next steps; while keeping aspects of GDPR, data sensitivity and confidentiality into account.

As a Functional Analyst you will also need to have following qualifications and competences:

  • Master’s degree in Information Management, Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematic, Economics or alike, and/or equivalent experience of 3 years
  • 3 years relevant experience in functional analysis
  • Experience in SQL is a must
  • Experience in developing Data Quality Frameworks is a plus
  • Experience with tools such as SAS, SQL developer, DBeaver and Cognos are a plus; an interest in these tools is a must
  • Be a team player
  • Be analytical: extremely curious, constantly looking for an explanation; analyzing sharply, concise & to the point
  • Take ownership on tasks assigned: you will be cultivating analytics within the bank
  • Be able to influence and convince not only peers but also the stakeholders based on analytical results
  • Good knowledge of English
